Crash leaves one person dead on Walpole Island

One person was killed in an early morning hit and run collision at Walpole Island First Nation.

Lambton OPP, Walpole Island First Nation Police and emergency services were called to the crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Austin Road just before 3 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle which then fled the scene.

A 47-year-old Walpole Island First Nation resident was pronounced dead at the scene.

Austin Road between Creek Road and River Road was closed for several hours while police conducted their investigation.
