Fall fair season kicks off with Petrolia and Enniskillen Fair

Hundreds are expected to come out for the Petrolia and Enniskillen Fall Fair this weekend.

Like always, it's the first fall fair of the Lambton circuit, and this year's theme is "Wish Upon a Fair".

Petrolia and Enniskillen Agricultural Society Board Member Judy Krall said it's an exciting year, as the event coincides with Petrolia's 150th anniversary.

"Some of the exhibits inside of the arena will have that 'With Upon a Fair' theme," said Krall. "Every committee chair that has a section will have some items that have been submitted for judging that reflect the theme."

The fair gets underway at 6 p.m. Friday, with the midway, various exhibits, a beer garden and tractor pull.

Krall said the opening ceremonies start at 7 p.m. at the Greenwood Recreation Centre.

"We're also running our fair ambassador competition that evening," she said.

On Saturday, exhibits open at 8:30 a.m.

Krall said there will also be ATV races, a parade, heavy horse show, a dance show, 4H show, wrestling, candy hunt, and fair dance.

"The dance features the Dirt Country Band, and will go from 9 p.m. all the way until 1 a.m.," she said. "There's something for everyone. The fair has been well-received in the community over the years. I think the big change, like everybody else, is coming out of COVID. There's been a lot of change, and a lot more use of technology. We have debit machines at the gate now, where before we would take strictly cash for admission."

The popular demolition derby highlights Sunday's events.
