Over 100 vendors registered for Art in the Park

It's hoped thousands of people will flock to Mike Weir Park in Bright's Grove on Saturday for the 42nd Rotary Art in the Park.

Event co-chair Scott McKelvie said they've secured 115 vendors this year, including something new.

"We have a vendor that's bringing a portable escape room," said McKelvie. "It's a family friendly adventure game. It's a multi-room camping tent and inside there are puzzles and tasks that need to be completed in order to successfully escape."

McKelvie said it's $10 to get in that attraction.

"It will be excellent for those people that are out shopping and maybe they have young people or spouses that would rather be in the tent playing challenging games," he said.

McKelvie described Art in the Park as a perfect way to mark the end of summer.

"Every year I can not get over how social this sale has been," McKelvie said. "People come to look at what the vendors are putting out, because it is high quality artesian products, but many, many people find their way to the food tent. We have three food vendors there. It's just a real social end of summer time."

Sarnia-Bluewaterland Rotary President Kim Howlett said they're praying for good weather, but the event will be held rain or shine.

"The years I've been involved, we've only had sprinkles, thank heavens," said Howlett. "Most of the time we've had really good weather. We'll just keep our fingers and toes crossed."

Howlett said it takes a team to put on the event each year.

"We have 26 current members in our club and just about everybody in our club comes out on Saturday, or Friday, the setup day. We also have people that are what we call Friends of Rotary, non-Rotarians, they may be spouses or just friends, that volunteer," she said.

Art in the Park goes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 7.

Admission is a donation.
