Hundreds of walkers and runners are expected at Canatara Park Sunday for the 43rd annual Terry Fox Run.
Committee member Laurie Rome said last year's event collected $63,000 towards cancer research, and they're hoping to surpass that this year.
"That's the only way that we're going to have a cure," said Rome.
Since its inception in 1980, the Terry Fox Run has raised over $900 million across Canada.
Cancer Survivor Tracy Tully said the annual event holds a personal meaning to her after being diagnosed with cancer in her lungs over five years ago after visiting the doctor for a lingering summer cold and cough.
"Luckily there's an incredible team out in Petrolia, my doctor Dr. Daniel saved my life," said Tully. They acted very quickly and I ended up having the second lobe of my lung removed in November of 2019, to which I was extremely lucky to have a really great recovery afterwards."
Participants can register in person beginning at 8 a.m. at Canatara Park bandshell, and the run will kick off at around 9 a.m.
"Just bring yourself, bring your family, bring your friends and bring your money," said Rome. :That's what it's all about. We'll get you registered when you get there and we'll have a great time. Run, walk, whatever you want to do."
Events are also planned Sunday in Petrolia and Alvinston.
