United Way campaign kicks off with Day of Caring

It's the official kick off to this year's fundraising campaign for the Sarnia-Lambton United Way.

Executive Director Pamela Bodkin said Tuesday, September 17 is the 29th annual Day of Caring.

"Day of Caring is a communitywide volunteer event," said Bodkin. "It really brings together a lot of people, and people also then understand exactly where the donated dollars are used in our community, so it's also a very good educational event."

Bodkin said 130 volunteers are donating their time at 25 job sites across Sarnia-Lambton.

"We have jobs ranging from building fences to garden benches, we're doing some painting and of course we're doing a lot of cleaning up of gardens and gutters," she said.  "Also just doing some basic home maintenance for seniors and those living with disabilities."

The goal for this year's fundraising initiative is $1.487 million.

The agency exceeded its target in 2023, and has set this year's goal one percent higher than last year's achievement.

A total of 17 local agencies receive funding from the United Way, including Sarnia-Lambton Rebound, Salvation Army and Lambton Elderly Outreach.
