Sarnia police released more details on Tuesday about a collision involving an SUV and motorcycle that happened nearly a week ago.
Officers responded, along with members of Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services and Lambton Emergency Medical Services, to the area of Finch Drive and Fanshawe Drive on Wednesday, September 11 at around 9 p.m.
"Upon arrival it was discovered that a motorcycle, driven by an adult male with a young female passenger, had collided with a SUV in the intersection," the media release read.
Police said a 30-year-old man and a 13-year-old girl were travelling northbound on the motorcycle and sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. The 70-year-old driver of the SUV was unharmed.
On Wednesday, officials at London Health Sciences Centre confirmed the 30-year-old father has died as a result of his injuries.
A GoFundMe has been launched to assist the family.
Kelly Patton of Sarnia said she started the fundraiser to assist her sister, Ashley Graham, during this difficult time.
"On the evening of September 11, 2024, Alex (13) and her dad Mike (30) were on their way to McDonalds and were involved in a motorcycle accident. Both are in intensive care and are in critical condition," she wrote on the GoFundMe page. "Mike is the main financial support to this family of [seven]. This fundraiser is to assist in additional transportation costs, rent, food, [and] other living expenses while the family is navigating this terrible and uncertain time."
The Sarnia Police Traffic Services Unit continues to investigate the collision and said an update will be shared with the community at the completion of the investigation.
