Residents prepare to cast their ballots at Walpole Island

Over 60 residents have thrown their name into the ring, hoping for a seat on band council at Walpole Island First Nation.

Election day is set for Saturday, September 21.

Voters will choose from eight candidates running for the position of chief, including incumbent Chief Daniel Miskokomon.

There's a whopping 67 people vying for one of the 12 band council seats.

The poll is open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Walpole Island First Nation Governance Building on Tahgahoning Road.

Votes will be counted right after the poll closes with results to be declared immediately.

A swearing in ceremony will be held on Monday, September 23.
