Local Terry Fox Runs raise nearly $100K

The Sarnia community raised over $50,000 for cancer research during the annual Terry Fox Run.

Hundreds laced up their shoes for the event at Canatara Park last month.

Committee member Laurie Rome said while the final tally won't be in until schools wrap up their Terry Fox Runs, the September 15 event raised $57,161.30.

In Alvinston over $10,000 was collected and Petrolia reached a new record raising over $30,000 during its 44th annual run.

Since its inception in 1980, the Terry Fox Run has raised over $900 million across the country.

Funds raised go towards innovative cancer research through the Terry Fox Research Institute (TFRI).
