Sarnia woman remembers late husband as she reopens Stones 'N Bones

A treasured business in downtown Sarnia has reopened while it remains on the market waiting for a buyer.

Stones 'N Bones Museum was closed for nearly a year after the original owner, Jim Richards, passed away in December 2023.

His wife, Allison Richards, reopened the business on October 25.

"I know Jim would have been very happy with that but it's a little bit of a challenge for me because I mostly did store things and Jim always did the museum tours," she said. "It took me quite a few months to open it again because it was a whole grieving process... it was horrible."

A reopening announcement on Facebook generated a positive public response, with over 600 shares.

Allison laughed about how "insane" and great it was to open the Christina Street attraction again.

"It was a little bit overwhelming and it was pretty exciting that they still remembered and still really wanted to come through here," she said.

Allison said the museum itself and its contents are currently up for sale.

"So I thought I would try to reduce some of the store inventory because of that," she said. "If I had more staff and I wasn't as old as I am, and somebody could just take it over, that would be fabulous."

Allison said one group was interested in purchasing the museum's collection but at this time, there have been no firm offers.

"But it hasn't been up there on the market for more than a month at best," she said.

The 9,760-square-foot property is listed at $1.89 million on Realtor.ca.

In the meantime, Stones 'N Bones Museum will be open Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
