Libro grants help address local food insecurity

A pair of local organizations are getting funding boosts, as Libro Credit Union has unveiled its grant recipients for 2024.

Noelle’s Gift to Children is getting $20,000 to enhance its student nutrition program.

The money will be specifically allocated for the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables.

The initiative provides food to 47 schools serving 10,200 students in Lambton County. It receives seed funding for approximately 15 per cent of the cost of a healthy snack per child, and additional funds are needed to supplement this.

Sarnia-Lambton Rebound was granted $7,000 to support those facing food insecurity at The Hub, which is an integrative youth drop-in service supporting youth aged 12 to 24.

Youth have access to amenities such as an emergency food bank, laundry and shower facilities, clothing, and hygiene supplies, along with a caring Hub team member to check in with.

Stratford-based Technical Training Group received $14,000, and the Women’s Rural Resource Centre in Strathroy was allocated $9,000.

In all, Libro supported 23 projects across southwestern Ontario, with a total contribution of $310,000.
