Sarnia's Celebration of Lights marking 40 years

Sarnia's Celebration of Lights at Centennial Park is being assembled this weekend.

Community set up day is set for Saturday, November 16.

Board Chair Dean Holtz said he would love to see about 100 volunteers come out to help.

"I always say I need an army of volunteers," said Holtz. "We start at 9 a.m. at Centennial Park. That's when we're going to put everything together, assemble all the displays, run all the electrical, tape it all up, that's when we have to get everything done."

Sarnia's Celebration of Lights has been a tradition along the waterfront for 40 years, featuring displays such as the Shipwreck, Neptune's Castle and the Lighthouse among many other holiday themed decorations.

Holtz said it's a community effort to keep it going.

"It's just great on that morning, last year we had 154 people, which as far as I know is the most we've ever had, and it was just awesome to see all these groups of people setting up the displays and having fun doing it," he said.

The displays, including the iconic Candle Arch, will be lit up on November 30.

Opening ceremonies will begin at 5 p.m. and include live music and entertainment.

"We're going to have a Christmas Carol concert and Santa comes in, there's going to be photos with Santa and the horse and wagon rides, fireworks and everything," said Holtz. "And because of the sponsors, it's a free event, people can just show up. The last two years we've had about 4,000 people."

The displays will be lit-up every evening throughout the holiday season.
