Warwick Fire and Rescue is thanking Enbridge Gas for earmarking funds towards training materials, through Safe Community Project Assist.
The program runs in conjunction with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC).
This year’s $125,000 investment is being split by 25 fire departments across Ontario.
The money will be used to purchase educational materials to assist in training firefighters in life-saving techniques.
Fire Chief Rick Sitlington is pleased.
"We are grateful for Enbridge’s Safe Community Project Assist program," said Sitlington. "Grants like this help smaller communities keep up with the Ontario Fire Marshal's ever-changing certification demands now and in the future.”
Acting Ontario Fire Marshal John McBeth said the funding is critical.
“Fire departments train every single day and that’s why it’s important for them to have access to the right materials to keep their members and the public safe," said McBeth. "Safe Community Project Assist helps departments afford some of these training tools and improves the ongoing learning that occurs across Ontario."
Since the launch of Safe Community Project Assist in 2012, 369 grants have been provided to Ontario fire departments for additional firefighter training.
