New apartment on former Sarnia hospital site welcomes first residents

Residents have started moving into one of two new apartment buildings at the former Sarnia General Hospital site.

Skyline Living Vice President BJ Santavy said over a dozen units in the four storey building off Mitton Street have been leased and residents started moving in at the beginning of December.

"There is still availability," she said. "There's 59 units in that building, so there's a number of units left there and there's a few units that have [already] pre-leased for the building still under construction off MacKenzie. People are waiting to sell their homes in the spring etc. So, they're planning for the future."

Santavy said construction of the first building was mostly complete in early December.

"There's just a few small items that they need to come back and take care of, but essentially they're done in the first building and we're expecting building two, at 205 MacKenzie, to be ready for move-in in late spring," Santavy said.

She said they've received very positive feedback about the additional amenity space.

"People are so impressed by our clubhouse," Santavy said. "It's a communal space. There's a social lounge with a fireplace and billiards, there's a fully stocked hosting kitchen and dining area, plus a private dining room that our tenants like to use during holidays like Christmas. When they don't have the space for all of their family in their apartment, but would still like to host something, it's a fantastic space."

Santavy said the rental office is located in that building.

"If anyone is looking to take a peek at our clubhouse or get toured through our 220 Mitton Street property -- the one that's completed -- we have staff there between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. that are happy to show the space," she said.

Tours of the Aura Apartments can also be scheduled online.
