Sarnia-Lambton's Conservative MP predicts Canadians will be going to the polls in the new year.
Marilyn Gladu said after recent events in the House of Commons, the writing is on the wall.
"With Chrystia Freeland (finance minister) stepping down, Sean Fraser (housing minister) stepping down, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh finally calling for the resignation of the prime minister and indicating he's going to vote non-confidence, I think when we return to parliament it will be turbulent, but it will result in an early election call," said Gladu.
Gladu said other challenges moving into the new year will be security at the Canada-US border following the threat of a 25 per cent tariff on Canadian imports by president elect Donald Trump.
"There are many parts of the North American Free Trade Agreement where we need to point out, parts that are made in Canada that go to the U.S. and get put into items that the Americans buy, if you increase the tariffs on us, that will increase the cost to Americans," she said. "So I think there are some natural carve outs and I think there are ways that we can work together so that both economy's grow and are successful."
The local MP also believes the affordability crisis isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and will continue to be a key priority for all levels of government in Sarnia-Lambton.
"Dealing with the situation with those that are homeless and I think in Sarnia the jobs are going to be important. Protecting what we have and expanding and diversifying into other things I think will be key as we move forward into the future."
Looking back at the year that was, Gladu said she was very happy to see the oversized load corridor completed.
"That's something that I started as an engineer and then promised when I first was elected," she said. "So, it's good to see that built because that will allow our manufacturers locally to export and to grow our economy, which will create jobs that we need."
An official ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the Cestar Dock to mark the completion of the project in October.
