Suspect runs into traffic to avoid arrest

A Sarnia man who was out on bail has been arrested again after multiple residents reported seeing a man "behaving erratically" in their backyards in the area of Exmouth Street and Trillium Park over the weekend.

Sarnia police were called on Sunday, January 12, at 2:30 p.m.

During the arrest, Sarnia police said the 39-year-old suspect ran into traffic on Exmouth Street in an attempt to flee and continued to try to break free when officers caught up with him.

In a media release, police said the suspect was "taken to the ground where he persisted in his combativeness."

Eventually, the suspect was taken into custody.

At the time of the incident, the accused was subject to two probation orders and was out on bail for recent previous offences.

He was arrested at the beginning of the year for allegedly trying to force his way into a home on Maxwell Street on New Year's Day.

Sarnia police said he was also wanted by London police for failing to comply with a release order.

As a result, the accused was held for a bail hearing on two counts of breach of probation and resisting arrest.

The Sarnia Police Service thanked the citizens who helped stop traffic on Exmouth Street as officers dealt with the accused.

No officers were injured in the process.
