Guilty plea entered in 2022 manslaughter case

An Aamjiwnaang resident, charged in connection with a fatal assault in 2022, has entered a guilty plea in Sarnia court.

Brandon Gilbert, who was 23-years-old at the time of his arrest, was charged with manslaughter in the death of 26-year-old Dalton Eugene Bressette.

Sarnia police had responded to a report of a fight at a gathering on Maness Court near Tashmoo Avenue on August 28.

Bressette was transferred to London Health Sciences Centre in critical condition, and died several days later.

A trial was scheduled to begin last week, however, on Friday, January 10, 2025, Gilbert pled guilty to manslaughter.

Sentencing is scheduled for Friday, February 14 at the Superior Court of Justice.

Gilbert is also scheduled to appear in court next month to answer to child pornography related charges.

The incident allegedly happened after Gilbert had been released on bail.

A preliminary hearing is set for Friday, February 21 in the Ontario Court of Justice.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
