Stolen vehicle taken on joyride, suspect arrested

Sarnia police have laid charges in a vehicle theft, in which the truck was taken on a bit of a joyride.

Officers were called to a home on Talfourd Street at around 11:45 p.m. on Monday, January 13.

The homeowners were awakened by a loud bang and saw one of their vehicles had been rammed out onto the road, suffering significant damage, to accommodate the theft of their truck.

City police later learned the stolen vehicle was involved in other traffic complaints in southwestern Ontario, including failing to stop for police.

Footage of a man allegedly in possession of the truck near Melbourne, Ontario led to a positive identification of a suspect.

The following day just before 8:45 a.m., the stolen vehicle was located in a Stuart Street parking lot, and a 22-year-old man was arrested at a home on Mitton Street.

The man from Muncey, Ontario is charged with possession of property obtained by crime, operation while prohibited under the criminal code, three counts of failing to comply with a release order, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

The suspect was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
