Sarnia Legion doled out the big bucks in 2024

The Sarnia Legion donated nearly $730,000 to local charities, not-for-profits, and residents last year.

In 2024, the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 gave $36,846 to 50/50 prize winners, $341,504 to Catch the Ace winners, $24,500 was given through meat raffle prizes and charities received $327,098 through lottery donations for a grand total of $729,948.

Legion President Ron Realesmith said the total number is a tremendous amount of money back into the community to much needed and well deserving not-for-profits and charities.

"These funds raised, originate from the people within our community that show up every week to our Legion and partake in our lotteries," said Realesmith. "While we provide good service and entertainment, these folks support our Legion, week in and week out. They believe in our core mission, which is to take care of Veterans and their families, the act of remembrance, and supporting the community. Without them, we can’t do any of this, so thank you, to our patrons and members, for your unwavering support."

In September, the Legion handed out cheques to 10 area charities, thanks to funds raised through the Catch the Ace campaign.

The progressive jackpot in the current Catch the Ace lottery through the Legion has grown to nearly $50,000.

Draws are held every Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $5.
