Habitat for Humanity to brave the cold for a good cause

Local residents are preparing to bundle up for the Coldest Night of the Year.

The fourth annual fundraiser in support of Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton returns to Sarnia Bay on Saturday February 22.

The nationwide campaign supports charities that assist individuals experiencing hurt, hunger and homelessness.

Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton CEO Dave Waters said funds raised locally will go towards building homes.

"So this money in 2025 will go toward our homes that we're building in Forest," said Waters. "We always like to raise $60,000 if we can."

Waters said the need for affordable housing continues to rise.

"The urgency is never different for us, it's always urgent, we've sort of been in an affordable housing crisis for 15 years now," he said. "We would just like to continue to do our part in hopes that we can raise more money year or year so we can do more. If we can build an extra house a year then that helps the cause."

The CNOY walk will begin and end at the Polish Hall on Exmouth Street. Check in is at 4 p.m. with the walk set to start at 5 p.m.

Participants are asked to register online through Habitat for Humanity's website.

River City Vineyard is also holding a walk for Coldest Night of the Year on Saturday.

Funds raised will support the shelter and community centre. The goal this year is $30,000.

The event begins at 4 p.m. at the Mitton Street site.
