Red Carpet Ready accepting formal wear donations

Donations are being collected until early next month for this year's Red Carpet Ready event.

The Rebound community project -- formerly known as The Cinderella Project -- provides prom and graduation formal wear to youth.

Coordinator Nicole McLean said donations will be accepted until March 6. "People are welcome to donate at the Rebound building at 10 Lorne Crescent, but also out in the county as well," McLean said. "We have Two Water Brewing in Corunna collecting for us, the Black Gold Brewery in Petrolia and Ravell Insurance in both Forest and Bright's Grove."

McLean said the community has been "fantastic" when it comes to already making donations.

"At the end of last year alone, just with formal dresses, we had about 1,300 of them and already we've had hundreds of new ones come in this year," she said.

Red Carpet Ready will be held March 7, 8 and 9 in the upstairs ballroom at the Dante Club.

"Youth will have an hour time slot where they can come in and browse the selection of formal wear that we have and each youth will go home with a formal wear look of their choosing free of charge," said McLean.

"Now, we don't just do dresses, but do masculine formal wear, suiting and all of those kinds of things as well. So youth, no matter what they're looking for as their formal wear looks, we've got them covered," she said.

Youth are asked to register online, but walk-ins will be welcome.

"We invite youth ages 13 to 24. So, if they're graduating later from something or from some other special program, we welcome them to come in and get something to celebrate their accomplishments as well," said McLean.

The event runs Friday, March 7 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and March 8 and 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
