Man arrested in overnight theft

A 43-year-old Sarnia man was arrested early Saturday morning after he allegedly stole more than $2,000 in tools.

Police said a resident called officers at 3:40 a.m. about a male rummaging through parked vehicles on East Street near Lincoln Park.

Investigators searched the area and located the man who matched the suspect description.

When the man was located he allegedly was in possession of tools marked with another person's name. The tools were later returned to the owner.

Police said the accused was also in possession of other items and returned to their owners, who lived within the same area.

Officers said at the time of the man's arrest he was wanted on two arrest warrants for property offences.

He faces charges of theft, possession of stolen property and two counts of trespass at night.

He was held for a bail hearing but has since been released.
