Registration still open for Lambton Shores Minor Baseball

Kids looking to get outside and be active this summer are encouraged to sign up to play baseball.

Registration is open until Saturday to join a select or house league team under the Lambton Shores Minor Baseball Association.

Divisions range from tee ball (players must be four years old as of June 15) all the way up to Midget 18U.

Board Member Meagan Millar said it's a fun, safe and inclusive environment for everyone.

She notes they've really been able to improve the facilities at Coultis Park in Forest, thanks to a grant under the Jays Care Foundation in 2021.

About $54,800 was earmarked through the Field of Dreams program.

"We did quite a few renovations on our first diamond, so lots of new fencing and bleachers," said Millar. "We have new bathroom facilities with a water bottle fountain. Now, we're working on our second diamond with the hopes of being able to take out our infield that we have and a mound that was permanent. We want to take that out so we can have more little kids playing in Forest."

Millar said they're excited to bring back girls' softball this summer.

It's been unavailable for nearly 20 years.

"We're really hopeful to have a couple of girls' teams," she said. "We'd love to see U11 and U13. Of course, girls and boys kind of play together but we're hoping that if we have girls' softball then maybe the girls will stay in it a bit longer. Competing with the boys can be a little bit intimidating. This might just keep them in the sport a bit longer."

Teams will be capped at 11 players for select and 12 players for house league, then will be waitlisted.

Millar said they're always looking for volunteers and coaches to help reenergize the baseball community.

She said no experience is necessary, and everyone is welcome.
