The Inn of the Good Shepherd is looking for schools to participate in its annual Cereal Dom-INN-O's challenge.
For the fourth year in a row, elementary students are asked to collect as many boxes of cereal to help stock the shelves at the food bank.
Out of the boxes collected students will build a unique dominos track.
Inn Executive Director Myles Vanni said students get to design the structure.
"They'll pick a day in May where they will do their domino effect and they'll set up the cereal boxes down the hallway or in the gym," he said. "Usually the older classes get involved with designing it, so it kind of fits into the school curriculum a bit and then they'll have a launch and the kids shout and cheer and jump and they have a great time as all these boxes domino down."
All of the cereal boxes will be donated to the Inn's food bank.
Vanni said the breakfast staple is a struggle to keep in the food bank.
"It's so important because that's that breakfast for kids and you want nutrition, you want stuff in their tummies, so they have good energy to learn and play in school, so this really solves that," he said.
Last year, schools collected 4,400 boxes for the food bank, allowing it to keep cereal fully stocked from June until February.
"It's really great to teach these kids that you can help people in a meaningful way and have a lot of fun doing it, so they just go hand in hand," Vanni said.
Teachers can register their class online through the Inn's website.
The three schools that collect the most cereal boxes will win a freezie party.
Winners will be determined by dividing the number of cereal boxes collected by the number of students.
