Sarnia Christian School to launch high school programming

Sarnia Christian School will start offering high school classes in September.

Town hall style meetings were held and surveys were conducted in 2022 to gauge interest in offering secondary school classes.

Principal Len Smit expects a small number of students to be enrolled the first year.

"After a couple of years of investigating and getting parent input, we feel the time is right that by September we can start Grade 9, and add Grade 9 as an offering for our families," said Smit.

He said the idea is to add a grade at the private high school each year until they get to Grade 12.

"We realize that it's going to take a few years to build. We also realize parents are watching and seeing what we're doing before they sign up. But, we do have a number of students enrolled and we look forward to offering Grade 9 in September," Smit said.

Currently, some students are bussed from the Sarnia Christian School to the London Christian High School.

Smit said in September, the Grade 9 students enrolled with them will be located near the elementary school.

"We do have a secondary campus at 1281 Exmouth Street and we hope parents will come to the open house on April 30 at 5 p.m. to get a better understanding of what the high school is going to look like. We hope it's a bit unique from other opportunities in Sarnia," he said.

Smit said the high school will focus on three pillars; faith integrated education, a personalized educational experience and service orientated leadership.

He said the students will be engaged in the local community and learning through hands-on learning experiences with local partners both on and off site.

The open house will be held until 6:30 p.m.
