Celebration planned to mark Moore Museum's 50th anniversary

A treasured Lambton County landmark, dedicated to preserving and showcasing pioneer life, will celebrate its golden anniversary this weekend.

Moore Museum will hold a special event to mark its 50th anniversary on Saturday, June 7.

Museum Coordinator Fiona Doherty said they have a number of things planned, including demonstrations.

"We're going to have free admission from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. and we've got just about every building filled with something," said Doherty. "We'll have a blacksmith working in our blacksmith shop doing demonstrations. We have somebody playing the organ in the chapel. We have somebody running our print shop."

Doherty said there will also be wool weaving and spinning demonstrations.

"We'll have tea and scones in the Victorian cottage and lots of fun activities for people of all ages," she said.

Volunteers, donors and community members who have helped sustain the museum for five decades will also be recognized.

Doherty said the museum has grown quite a bit since opening in 1975.

"It started as a group of citizens who were concerned about losing the heritage of the area. So, collecting artifacts from what was formerly Moore Township, now part of St. Clair Township. Over the years we've gathered thousands of artifacts here and those include a lot of buildings. So, we have historic buildings that were brought here from throughout the township and beyond. So now we are a 13 building heritage village and there's lots to do and see," Doherty said.

The museum is located along the St. Clair River, 20 minutes south of Sarnia at Moore Line and Emily Street.

It's open Friday to Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. until September.
