Those visiting downtown Petrolia will need to be mindful of how long they plan to frequent the area after council approved a four-hour time limit.
There was previously a two-hour limit for downtown parking but it was not enforced.
A draft parking bylaw amendment presented to council in May said the parking restriction signs were removed as a way to be "friendly and welcoming" to residents, visitors, and theatre patrons.
"Over the years this has proved some difficulty in relation to those who see the downtown parking as a permanent option for their residence or business in the downtown, which is not permitted," read a council report.
The report came back to council for final approval on June 9 after municipal staff met with members of the Downtown Business Association.
Council also approved an amendment from Councillor Chad Hyatt to enforce the parking limit on Petrolia Line from Oil Heritage Road to Princess Street, instead of Oil Heritage Road to Oozloffsky Street as initially proposed.
Signs will be placed to reflect the change.
Operations Clerk Mandi Pearson told Sarnia News Today the signage will be installed within a couple of weeks.
No overnight parking will be permitted in the downtown area.
Changes to the winter parking schedule was also approved.
Motorists will not be allowed to park their vehicles along highways between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. from November 15 to April 1.
"In the event of a predicted snow storm outside of these dates residents shall remove their vehicles from all highways to not impair the removal of snow," read a council report.
The overnight winter parking ban was previously from November 1 to April 30.
