A 30-year-old woman, accused of threatening Sarnia police officers with a knife, was taken down in a foot chase Thursday afternoon.
At around 2:45 p.m., plain clothes officers with the Intelligence Unit spotted a woman at Murphy Road and London Road believed to be in possession of a stolen shopping cart.
It's alleged the woman told police she had a knife and was going to use it. After she reached for something in her backpack, officers tried to place her under arrest but she ran away.
She was brought down in the parking lot of a nearby gas station and taken into custody.
Police said the handle of a knife was protruding from the bag she had originally reached for.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The suspect also had an outstanding arrest warrant with the London Police Service where she is facing charges of assaulting a peace officer on February 14, 2025.
Shelby Wight, of no fixed address, is charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
She was held in custody for a bail hearing.
