Major road closures to kick off Monday

Sarnia residents heading downtown will need to find an alternate route.

Starting on Monday, July 7 Wellington Street will be closed from Victoria Street to Front Street for road work.

Work includes combined sewer separation, to enhance stormwater resiliency during significant weather events, new road surface, raised cycling lanes, intersection safety improvements and beautification and new water and sewer service.

In a social media post, the city said it's part of the $56 million 2025 Capital Budget.

"We know [this] comes with some pain in the form of seasonal road closures so we can get the work done while the weather allows. It's always a challenge, and we appreciate any patience that our residents can provide while we make sure our road, sewer and water systems get the attention they need," the post said.

The project is in its second phase. In 2024 work was completed on Wellington Street from Veterans Park to Brock Street.

It's expected to last into the fall because of the considerable amount of underground and road work.

While some crews will be busy with that project there will be another closure this week.

Rosedale Avenue will also be closed from Monday morning until Friday evening from Indian Road to Murphy Road, for the installation of services to Rosedale Public School.

It will be local traffic only and motorists are asked to obey signage and follow the posted detour route.
