The City of Sarnia has got a head start on the summer road construction season.
Construction Manager Robert Williams said the Wellington Street, Victoria Street and Davis Street project is already underway.
He said work on the large project is expected to be ongoing until December.
"That's a $5 million project that includes three different roads and four major intersections," said Williams. "We've broken it down into phases. The Davis Street intersection, we're hoping to get it open back up in about a month, month and a half. And then we're currently working on Victoria Street and Wellington Street. Future phases include the Vidal and Brock Street intersection of Wellington Street and Queen Street south of Wellington.
Williams said work is also underway at Cathcart Boulevard just west of Lake Chipican Drive. That project is expected to wrap up in three weeks.
Phase three of the Plank Road reconstruction project is underway.
The final phase includes the replacement of the 300 millimetre water main, new water services to properties, new asphalt overlay and wide paved shoulders for active transportation. Work is expected to be completed by late this summer.
Williams said the city also has $5 million worth of paving to complete this year.
"Lots of local roads are being paved so there will be road closures associated with all of those," he said. "Please be patient with us. Our workers have families and we all have to get somewhere, but please be patient with us, we do need to do the work. Last year was the first year ever we had complaints that we were doing too much work and this year is shaping up the same way."
