'Stuff the Studio' returns ahead of another school year

Blackburn Media has once again teamed up with the Inn of the Good Shepherd and Lambton College for Stuff the Studio.

Residents are invited to drop off donations of school supplies including backpacks, reusable water bottles, pens and pencils to our mobile studio on London Road on Wednesday, August 13.

Inn of the Good Shepherd Executive Director Myles Vanni said they're anticipating on putting together about 1,000  backpacks for elementary and secondary students across the county.

"We want to make sure they have all the right tools for learning," said Vanni. "We've got team poised over the next couple of weeks to stuff those backpacks and build them for all the kids."

Vanni said the need has grown over the last couple of years.

"As more families struggle, so many are working part-time jobs and they manage to make ends meet, but it's these special things, these every day life crisis that happens, back to school, Christmas, birthdays, that puts a real challenge on those parents," he said.

Manley’s in Point Edward has Back to School Kits already assembled for residents to purchase and donate.

Stuff the Studio will be held from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Blackburn Media at 1415 London Road.

There's also a barbecue on from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., along with the chance to win some prizes.

Last year's inaugural event collected over $2,400 and over 600 pounds of supplies for local students.
