A new Wendy's restaurant in Sarnia helped give a boost to building permits last month.
Sarnia City Hall issued a total of 30 permits in August, valued at over $7.26 million.
That's down from 52 permits totaling over $10.4 million issued in July.
A $800,000 permit for construction of a Wendy's restaurant at 118 Indian Road S. was issued to G. L Smith Planning and Design Inc.
A permit valued at $2.5 million for a new steel building, site services and parking lot at 538 Gladwish Dr. was also issued, along with a $500,000 permit for the renovation of a former bank on Exmouth Street to make way for a dental office.
The monthly statistics included one permit for a single-family dwelling, bringing the year-to-date total for new homes to 11.
Year-over-year construction activity in Sarnia is trailing last year's pace with a total of 275 permits issued so far in 2025, compared to 316 during the first eight months of the year in 2024.
