Lane closures scheduled for Blue Water Bridge paving

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) says pavement repairs on the eastbound span of the Blue Water Bridge (BWB) will start on Monday, September 15.

In a media release, MDOT said the work will repair the bridge deck pavement, ensuring safe travel for commuters and extending the life of the bridge.

"One lane will remain open to traffic on the eastbound span from the BWB toll plaza to the mid-span point of the bridge. The westbound span will not be impacted by this work. A 14-foot width restriction will be in place during this work," MDOT said.

The department is estimating the work to be completed by November 1.

MDOT's work on the plaza expansion project in Port Huron also continues.

The first phase of the project, expected to cost $36.3 million, includes the relocation of the I-94/I-69 Exit 275 to M-25 (Pine Grove Avenue), reconfiguration of the 10th Avenue and Pine Grove Avenue intersection, rebuilding parts of eastbound I-94/I-69, and installing sound walls to reduce traffic noise. Construction will continue through December, with some sound wall work continuing into 2026.
