A 22-year-old from Wallaceburg has died after being hit by a vehicle at Walpole Island.
On September 13, at around 12:50 a.m., police with the First Nation, along with Lambton OPP and EMS responded to the scene on Tecumseh Road.
The OPP said the victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.
A 25-year-old from Walpole Island First Nation, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code and the Highway Traffic Act with the following offences:
- Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
- Operation While Impaired Causing Death
- Failing to Stop at Accident Resulting in Death
- Dangerous Operation Causing Death
- Driving While Under Suspension
Police said the accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing and remanded into custody.
They will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
A publication ban is in effect, and no further details will be released at this time.
