Windsor woman faces additional charges after incident while in Sarnia police custody

A Windsor woman has had additional charges laid against her following an incident while in custody.

The suspect was originally arrested on Friday by the Anishinabek police after crashing through a car wash on London Road.

She was handed over to Sarnia police and held overnight for bail.

On Saturday morning, while awaiting her bail hearing, a Special Constable went to her cell to give the suspect a bottle of water after breakfast.

According to Sarnia police, the woman lunged at the officer while he opened the cell door.

The Special Constable brought the accused to the ground while awaiting back-up officers to bring her fully under control.

The suspect suffered minor lacerations to her head following ‘contact with the floor.’ The officer had her police radio ripped from her police vest, but was unharmed.

The woman was transported to the hospital for treatment before being returned to the Sarnia Police Service.

As a result of the incident, a 62-year-old Windsor woman was held for bail on additional charges of assaulting a peace officer and mischief under $5000.

She has been released with conditions following her bail hearing.
