Local United Way campaign trailing behind last year

The Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign is trailing behind last year's pace.

Volunteer President Jason Killingsworth said they are still slowly inching toward the 60 per cent mark.

"We are now at 54 per cent of our campaign goal of $1.5 million, which is $808,000," said Killingsworth.

He said the campaign is running behind last year's pace.

"Which creates some concern, especially given the increased needs in our community," said Killingsworth. "If our campaign falls short, it means cuts must be made somewhere. We currently fund 28 local programs that impact so many in our community, and every one of them are already running on shoestring budgets."

The United Way is appealing to new and previous donors to help out with the fundraising effort.

"Our second mailer to donors who have given in the past, but have not yet given this year has just gone out, so we are hopeful that those donations will start to flow in," said Killingsworth.

The annual fundraising initiative runs until the end of the year.
