The Rotary Club of Sarnia's largest annual fundraiser is taking place this week.
The agency's long-standing auction is into its 42nd year and is always very popular, having raised over $1 million since its inception.
Over 500 items, worth over $70,000 were generously donated by the community.
That includes gift baskets, local services, gift certificates, sports tickets, electronic gadgets, weekend getaways, and unique hand-crafted gifts.
Spokesperson Carolyn Leaver-Luciani said there's truly something for everyone, regardless of budget.
She said it's a perfect time to get a head start on Christmas shopping.
"There's some amazing deals to be had," said Leaver-Luciani. "We have everything from a 1972 Team Canada autographed hockey jersey, a $4,000 kitchen renovation, landscaping, piano tuning and grimace slippers from McDonald's."
Leaver-Luciani said the money will be put to great use in the Sarnia-Lambton community.
"The money that we raise goes towards local projects, and we also do some overseas projects, but the majority of it stays right here," she said. "If people go to our website, they can see the Action Grants program, and they can apply. We give money out in January and August. All of the information is there about how to apply. You do have to be a registered charity to receive proceeds from these grants."
Leaver-Luciani said the club awards $50,000 in grants annually to local non-profit organizations such as Literacy Lambton, the Lambton County Music Festival, the Science Fair awards, YMCA Sunday Free Swims, Parkinson Society, the Victoria Playhouse, Rebound and many others.
They've also helped to fund initiatives like the Pathways pool restoration and the recent expansion at Standing Oaks.
You can go to www.rtva.ca to review and bid on the items.
Bidding runs from November 11 to 16.
Items can be picked up at the Rotary office on 1210 Michigan Avenue on Tuesday, November 18, or Wednesday, November 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
