Volunteers will be setting up lights displays, and checking them twice, this weekend at Centennial Park.
It's community set-up day for Sarnia's Celebration of Lights.
Board Chair Dean Holtz said it's a community effort to keep the annual display going.
"'I usually ask for an army of volunteers, we need at least 100 people who are willing to put in some good work and make this happen," said Holtz.
Volunteers are asked to gather at the Suncor Agora at 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 15.
"That's where we are going to have everybody assemble the close to 50 displays," said Holtz. "So all the frame and everything has to be bolted together and they have to be put up in place, and then also we have to run all the electrical to it."
Holtz said volunteers will be provided with hot drinks and snacks from Sarnia Blessings.
The exhibits along Sarnia's waterfront is a tradition that dates back over 40 years.
"Back in the day in the 80s, if you were the kind of family that liked to drive around and look at Christmas lights, there was one house that you had to go and look at, and that was Harvey McMichael's house on Oak Street. No one had their house lit up like his, not even close. And when he passed, his family offered to donate his lights and displays to be put up on the waterfront, and that's how the Celebration of Lights got started," he said.
Holtz said they've lost about $7,000 in sponsorship this year, so the volunteer run organization is also appealing for new donors and sponsors.
The opening ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, November 29 when Santa will turn on the lights for the holiday season.
