OLG: lotto tickets aren't meant for children

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) is encouraging parents to "channel their inner Grinch" when it comes to buying lottery tickets for their kids this holiday season.

The OLG is reminding residents that while it might seem like harmless fun, lottery tickets are a form of gambling and should never be given to anyone under the age of 18.

The OLG said introducing children to gambling can lead to problems long after the holidays, such as future addiction.

The following free resources are being offered to help residents make informed decisions.

- YMCA Youth Gambling Awareness Program (YGAP) – A free service funded by Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care that educates youth on gambling risks and promotes healthy decision-making.

- Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) – Gambling, Gaming and Technology Use Program – Offers tools and training for service providers addressing problem gambling, gaming, and internet addiction.

- Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) – An independent non-profit providing information on gambling prevention, including resources for teens and young adults.
