A wanted man is now facing additional charges for allegedly speeding away from Sarnia police during an enforcement blitz.
The Sarnia Police Service (SPS) said a suspended driver was seen behind the wheel near Confederation Street and Christina Street on September 29.
Officers tried to stop the vehicle near Vidal Street and Devine Street but the suspect allegedly took off "aggressively", which prompted police to call off the pursuit.
The driver also allegedly failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Devine Street and Brock Street.
The vehicle was later found abandoned on a Churchill Road property.
As a result, an arrest warrant was issued for a 23-year-old man for dangerous operation of a vehicle and flight from a peace officer.
City police said the suspect was arrested on December 3 for the driving incident and for a bench warrant stemming from a 2024 incident. Those charges included resisting a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime exceeding $5,000, break and enter and commit theft, and failure to comply with a probation order.
The SPS said he was also wanted on two orders for committal and is charged with driving while under suspension.
He was remanded into custody by the court following a bail hearing.
