The organizers of Operation Christmas Tree are once again hoping residents will be in the giving spirit this holiday season.
In coordination with the Optimist Club of Moore, Operation Christmas Tree helps to provide food and toys to over 135 families in St. Clair Township each year.
Club President Stanley Marsh said the holiday initiative has been running for over 35 years.
"It's just tremendous that the community is so giving," he said. "It's just unbelievable what we can do for our community."
As part of the initiative, families in need will also receive a hamper of books and clothing, delivered by local firefighters. Donations are also supplied to local food banks and local fire victims.
On Saturday, December 6, a donation drive-thru event will be held to help fill the hampers.
"We have a very popular OPP drive-thru where we collect canned goods for the food bank, and accept new toys, and cash donations that we use to supplement any toys that we're missing for certain ages of kids," Marsh said.
The donation event will be set up at the Emergency Services Building, at 392 Lyndoch St. in Corunna, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Marsh said they usually see upwards of 100 vehicles.
St. Clair Township Mayor Jeff Agar is expected to be at the event, along with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
For those unable to attend, online monetary donations will be accepted. Details can be found at operationchristmastree.ca.
