A local student's accomplishments are being celebrated after she earned second place in an international coding contest.
Lambton County Library said Naina Patel was the runner up in the 12 and under category of the Fiero Code Light Quest competition, which was held from October 1 to November 30.
Hundreds of young coders from libraries and schools around the world were invited to design a game, using Code Blocks, that restored light to "Planet Fiero."
Youth Programs and Outreach, Public Services Coordinator Vanitia Campbell said Patel participated through the Clearwater location and impressed judges with her creativity and strong storytelling.
“We are thrilled to see a Lambton County Library participant recognized on the world stage," said Campbell. "Naina’s creativity and determination truly shine through her project. Programs like Fiero Code help young people build confidence and develop essential digital skills, and we’re proud to support learners like her as they explore, experiment, and succeed.”
Patel said the achievement means a lot to her.
"Even though I coded the game, I have to give credit to my mother, who was always there to support me when things got tough," she said.
Patel added that finishing second motivates her to aim even higher next time.
Fiero Code is a self-guided learn-to-code software where users can make video games, websites, apps and animations.
The program is free for all Lambton County Library cardholders, of all ages, to access.
