Volunteers have been busy organizing book donations for this weekend's Rotary Club of Sarnia Bluewaterland 2026 Used Book Sale.
Chair Dale Wilcox said once again, they've been really pleased with the amount of donations received this year.
"It has just been incredible," said Wilcox. "We've had some excellent donations of large groups of books. We certainly have all of the best, latest authors. So, we're quite excited about it."
Wilcox said the sale is being held at DeGroot's Nurseries on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"We have the largest selection we've ever had in the teenage area and young adult books," she said. "We have a fair number of children's French books, but not as many as last year."
Wilcox said they're anxious to see readers come out and find some real "gems."
"In non-fiction, we got one large donation of military books in A1 condition. [They were from] one reader and [there are] about 250 books," Wilcox added.
Cash is accepted, but they offer debit/credit payments as well.
"Children's, small [books are] two for $1, the rest are $2 and $3," she said. "Any of the adult books are $2 to $5. Soft backs are $2 or $3 and hardbacks are $5 again this year."
The club also collected puzzles this year.
"We have about 300 adult puzzles and they will be anywhere from $1 to $10," Wilcox said. "We have a few, that are the large ones, that haven't even been opened. So, they're priced at $10, [but] I would say the average price is $6 for puzzles."
Wilcox recommends bringing a reusable bag for your purchases, but said it's not necessary if you forget.
If you don't have a chance to go this weekend, the sale will be held again at DeGroot's on January 30 and 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Wilcox said the club has three main goals for the sale; to get people reading, recycle books, and raise money for the Rotary club's work.
