The Sarnia Police Service's newest four legged officer helped in a pair of arrests, within one hour of each other on New Years Day.
Police Service Dog (PSD) Shadow and partner Cst. Kyle Vince were deployed just before 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 1.
Police had spotted a man wanted in connection with an Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) investigation at the intersection of Davis Street and Mitton Street. It's alleged when he spotted police, he took off on foot.
PSD Shadow was ready to enter a dumpster officers believed the suspect was hiding in, when the man surrendered.
The 32-year-old is charged with criminal harassment, harassing communications, mischief under $5,000, and resisting a peace officer.
About an hour later, a man wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant was seen by police on Talfourd Street. Police allege he took off in to the backyard of a home when he spotted the officer.
PSD Shadow was called in and began tracking the suspect, who was quickly found concealed behind a pile of logs in a neighbouring yard.
The 39-year-old surrendered without incident and arrested for theft under $5,000 and two counts of breach of probation.
The police service introduced Shadow and its second K9 team early last month.
