Lambton College president proud of school's consistency in innovation

Lambton College continues to rank high on the list of top research colleges across the country.

Research Infosource Inc. recently ranked the Sarnia-Lambton school as fifth in a list of Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges.

President and CEO Rob Kardas said he's really proud of the ranking.

"We've been in the top five for the past 10 years. I think what I'm most proud of, and our college is most proud of, is just the consistency we've shown to be in that top five ranking," he said. "As a smaller to medium-sized college, we want to be really responsive to our community, obviously industry, and what research really does is expand experiential learning opportunities for our students."

Looking ahead to 2026, Kardas said the two pillars of listening to the needs of the community and industry partners, and creating an experiential learning experience for students, will be key to the school's research success.

Research Infosource, a research, consulting, and publishing firm, said Lambton College collected over $11,500 in sponsorship research income in 2024, which is less than the over $21,000 received in 2023.

The difference in research income lowered Lambton College's 2025 ranking, as it was previously listed as the second research college in Canada.

The top three research colleges of 2025 included: Cégep de Trois-Rivières in Quebec, Mohawk College in Ontario, and Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.

Lambton College's research facilities range and include areas such as bio-industrial process, industrial materials, energy, manufacturing, and digital transformation.

In July 2025, the school received $200,000 in grant funding to expand its food and beverage research capabilities. In April 2025, the school also touted its success in receiving funding to support its Manufacturing Innovation Centre, Bio-Industrial Process Research Centre, and Digital Technology Lab.
