Lambton County Library is getting ready to promote literacy and learning during the third annual Family Literacy Day Festival.
The free event will be held on Saturday, January 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Family-friendly activities are scheduled to take place at the Sarnia Library on Christina Street and the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery on Lochiel Street.
“The Family Literacy Day Festival celebrates the joy of learning,” said Public Services Coordinator for Youth Programs and Outreach Vanitia Campbell. “When families play games, sing, dance, prepare meals, or read together, children develop skills for long-term well-being in school and life. This festival shows how fun and accessible those activities can be.”
Beginning at 9:30 a.m., a Disney sing-along will be held in the Sarnia Library Theatre. Dufflebag Theatre will then have a live performance of Robin Hood from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m.
"Expect sword fights, silly jokes, and a few surprises as the audience becomes part of the show," read a news release.
The festival will also feature face painting, henna art, physical activities, virtual reality and retro gaming. Community groups, including Literacy Lambton, Lambton County Children's Services, and Lambton Public Health will also have activity and information tables set up.
Meanwhile, a family art activity and scavenger hunt will be held at the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery.
The full schedule can be found on Lambton County Library's website.
Family Literacy Day has been celebrated annually across Canada since 1999, as a way of highlighting the importance of reading and literacy-related activities.
