Two people charged after early morning car theft

Two individuals have been arrested in connection with a car theft.

Early Saturday morning, police responded to a church on London Line after a parishioner noticed his coat, wallet, and car had been stolen.

Staff members advised police that an unknown woman and man had been at the church earlier in the evening. Officers learned that the victim's credit card had been used at a London Line business, and the video surveillance matched the description of the unknown churchgoers.

Police say they shared the information with the patrol unit, and an officer saw the car travelling westbound on London Line.

Additional police were called. Officers moved in after the car pulled into a variety store on Finch Drive.

The vehicle was recovered, and police found the stolen coat, along with multiple stolen credit cards, and the receipt from the fraudulent purchase.

Officers arrested the man and the woman.

The 36-year-old woman has been charged with possession of a stolen credit card, fraud under $5,000, use of a stolen credit card, and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

The 34-year-old man has been charged with possession of a stolen credit card, possession of property obtained by crime, and disobeying a court order.

Both suspects have been released with conditions following their bail hearings.

The investigation remains ongoing, with the potential for additional charges.
