Lambton College receives over $2M to support research

Lambton College has received a funding boost to support its Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) Laboratory.

The school recently received over $1.77 million from the Ontario Research Fund and the Canada Foundation for Innovation to further equip and scale the facility and expand opportunities.

Lambton College said the BSL2 Lab is considered one of a few certified facilities of its kind.

The lab's research focuses on microorganisms and biological materials relevant to biotechnology, environmental sustainability, and industrial innovation.

The post-secondary institution was also awarded $701,013 for the Canadian Material Circular Economy Syndicate from the Ontario Research Fund.

“These investments through the Ontario Research Fund and Canada Foundation for Innovation are a significant vote of confidence in Lambton College’s research expertise and our role in supporting Ontario’s innovation ecosystem,” said Lambton College President and CEO  Rob Kardas. “By strengthening infrastructure in circular economy research and biotechnology, we are better positioned to support industry partners, prepare highly skilled graduates, and deliver solutions that help protect Ontario’s economic resilience, environmental sustainability, and long-term competitiveness.”

The Canada Foundation for Innovation is a non-profit corporation that invests in research infrastructure at Canadian universities, colleges, research hospitals, and non-profit institutions. The Ontario Research Fund supports the construction, renovation, and acquisition of state-of-the-art research infrastructure.

The Ontario Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security awarded more than $47 million in funding to support 195 research projects at universities, colleges, and hospitals across the province.

Lambton College is considered to be one of the top five research colleges in Canada, according to Research Infosource's 2025 list
