Lambton County's Housing Services Department is looking for community input for a potential future housing development at the former St. Bartholomew’s Church property on Cathcart Boulevard in Sarnia.
Local residents are asked to come to one of three community consultations to hear a presentation from staff that will include a preliminary draft of considerations for the site.
"The intention of this upcoming public engagement is to present the preliminary concepts for the site to the public and get their feedback as to what they like for the property, and maybe some changes that we can incorporate into our design," said Manager of Housing Services Melisa Johnson. "We already have a building on that site directly adjacent to (the church site). Jubilee Gardens is a 41-unit rent geared to income property."
Feedback from residents is encouraged, and will be collected through tabletop exercises.
"The individuals in the neighbourhood are the ones that will be most impacted by the project, so we're looking for their input, but the consultation is open to the entire community. There are no restrictions or limits as to who can attend," said Johnson. "Our intended use is affordable housing. But if the community is interested in another use, we want to hear that so that we can present this information back to Council."
There are consultation sessions planned at Sacred Heart Church on Lecaron Avenue.
The first one is Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Wednesday's sessions are from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m.
Anyone who is unable to attend is welcome to contact Housing Services with their input and questions.
