Canada settles for silver in men's hockey

Canada has again had to settle for the silver medal in Olympic hockey.

Like the Canadian women's team, the men's team lost to the United States in overtime in the gold medal game.

Jack Hughes scored the winning goal for the U.S. early in the three-on-three overtime period, giving the Americans a 2-1 win and the gold medal.

U.S. forward Matt Boldy opened the scoring against Canada six minutes into the game. Despite several scoring chances, the Canadians were unable to find the back of the net in the first period.

But in the second period, a goal from defensemen Cale Makar brought Canada even with the U.S. Things were intense for the rest of the period, especially when the puck rang off the crossbar behind Canada's goalie Jordan Binnington.

Things stayed heated into the third period as team Canada received a four-minute penalty with less than seven minutes left in the period when Sam Bennett was called for high-sticking on Jack Hughes behind the U.S.A. net.

Shortly after, Jack Hughes got called for high-sticking on Bo Horvat, and it was four-on-four for just under a minute with less than four minutes remaining in the period.

But there would be no scoring in the third, sending the game to overtime.
