$700 in tools recovered in traffic stop

A traffic stop led to Sarnia police arresting a woman for allegedly shoplifting around $700 worth of tools.

An officer on patrol stopped a cyclist for a traffic infraction just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

While speaking with her, the officer noticed a brand-new DeWalt Jigsaw in her reusable bag.

It's alleged when the officer asked her about it, she became agitated. She said she purchased the tool from a store on Quinn Drive, but was unable to produce a receipt.

During a phone call with the store, the officer was informed a woman who matched the cyclist's description had allegedly made off with stolen items.

Police found about $700 worth of tools during a search and officials say further investigation revealed the woman is believed to be responsible for two other thefts.

According to police, the woman is also suspected of stealing a Marley "Rise Up Solar" portable Bluetooth speaker from a business on Exmouth Street on February 13, as well as four pairs of Milwaukee gloves, a 100-piece Milwaukee Impact Drill Set, and a 60-piece Milwaukee Impact Drill Set on February 20 from a business on Quinn Drive.

The 36-year-old woman was arrested and charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of disguise with intent and possession of property obtained by crime.

She was released following a bail hearing.
